My Story

I have a deep connection to the right of passage of birth. I believe birthkeeping and birthing wisdom was common knowledge amongst all women, and intentionally share in a way where this will be the case once again. It gives me so much life force to learn and share in this space and related women’s health topics.

I don’t quite know where it begun. My mum birthed us three children at home and called me into see my younger brothers birth when I was 9 years old. She works as a pregnancy photographer, and our living room doubles as her studio. She is often sharing stories of the pregnant people she was working with and has an inner understanding of normal, natural childbirth.

High School fuelled my social activist self, and I wanted to ‘change the world’. This eventually landed with the knowing that I need a skill and a social activist Midwifery career seemed like a solid option after quite a bit of deciding. After a year of university, I searched for other ways of learning and knowledges which brought me to see that birthing and pregnancy care has been taking place for years, as long as humans have existed. I started seeking out the knowledge and practices which have supported women in holistic ways forever.

I am fortunate to gain many skills from people who are tapping into and continuing this ageless wisdom. I feel my wish to contribute open heartedly to our culture can deeply come through my doula and birth support. Because I see that the way in which we birth and are born has impacts on our entire life and therefore our culture, our families and the world.

This is a humbling path, where the mother or birthing person is the one who knows most and I honour this. So really birth as an entity has carried me into the deepest learning.

Study/Learning Path

I studied a single year of a bachelor of Midwifery at The university of Canberra in 2019. I stopped after one year and continued learning from Traditional Midwife and CPM (certified professional midwife) Ruth Erdhardt in her Silent Birthkeeper Course together with circles of teachers and women from many different paths. I am very grateful for this sharing of knowledge which continues today.

During this time, thirsty for knowledge I completed a Doula training with Anna Watts from Celebration of Birth and my Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training with Sattva. I completed my training in Abhyanga Postpartum Oil Massage with Dani from Soma-Shakti while attending numerous workshops/conferences and knowledge sharing spaces.

In 2023 I lived and studied at the Da a Luz holistic/postmodern Midwifery School (non-medical training), located off-grid in Southern Spain. The way birth is supported here deeply impacted my practice and living in the sister community was life-changing, thankyou to the families and children here and my fellow students. I was fortunate to attend a Birth Skills Retreat in Portugal with amazing experienced teachers Samara Hawthorn, Alex Alonso and Ruth Erdhardt.

  • Maya has been my dream doula! We both had a dream of my birth before it happened. And it happened just like the dreams. Peaceful, undisturbed and smooth. She arrived when my surges were so intense. Her voice and gentle touch on my shoulder calmed and grounded me.

After birth she was very caring and checking on me, baby and playing with my 2 girls. She even took them to the park. She did more than I could ever ask.

  • Maya came to me when I was four weeks in my postpartum. I was crying in my partners arms when she was carefully entering the space, offering just to hold me as well. After my hormonal rollercoaster and myself calmed down she gave me an intuitive shiatsu massage. I felt very held by her presence, calmness and softness. Her touch was firm enough to completely let go and surrender and soft enough to feel nurtured and caressed. Time passed way too quickly.
